I just watched this very great Ted talk by Dave Meslin on apathy. His main point is that the traditional view on why we as a society do not actively engage with our environments is not because we are selfish stupid and lazy, but that there are crippling features in the environment around us that actively prevent us from engaging. So the question is, what is the best way to rid ourselves of these synthetic barriers? Do we, take over city hall, do we write letters to our magazine publishers, do we forcefully make ourselves get involved?

When a society is crippling you, how do you change it? Do you send ripples from the inside? or do you begin to tinker with it from the outside?

heres the video, its very short 7 min or so, and very good, particularly as a starting point for design work.
